teaspoonGround nutmeg

1tablespoonOrange peel; grated
½cupWater
2cupsFresh apples; chopped
1cupRaisins
¾cupWalnuts; chopped
1teaspoonVanilla extract
1packDeluxe Spice Cake Mix
3Large eggs
cupCrisco oil
cupWater
Whipped cream OR ice cream

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 deg. Grease 13x9x2 inch pan and line with waxed paper; grease paper. Combine brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, orange peel and ½ c water in saucepan. Cool and stir over med. heat until mixture boils and thickens. Remove from heat; stir in apples, raisins, walnuts and vanilla ext. Turn into pan and spread evenly. Combine dry cake mix, eggs, oil and 1¼ c. water in large mixer bowl. Mix batter as directed on package. Turn into pan and spread evenly over apple mixture. Bake at 350 deg. for 40 to 45 mins. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. At once, invert pan onto large platter. Remove pan and peel off paper.
