Spicy apple crisp

Ingredients

4cupsPeeled and sliced apples (cooking type)
1tablespoonLemon juice
cupSifted all-purpose flour
1cupQuaker Oats, uncooked (quick or old-fashioned)
½cupBrown sugar, firmly packed
½teaspoonSalt
1teaspoonCinnamon
cupButter or margarine; melted

Directions

Place apples in a shallow dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Combine flour, oats, sugar, salt, cinnamon and butter, mixing until crumbly.

Sprinkle crumb mixture over apples. Bake in preheated moderate oven (375 F.) about 30 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve warm or cold with cream or ice cream.

SPICY PEACH CRISP: Use 4 cups peeled and sliced fresh peaches in place of the apples in above recipe. If peaches are tart, sweeten slightly. Prepare and bake as directed above.
