Spicy applesauce cake

| 1 | tablespoon | Baking cocoa |
| 1½ | teaspoon | Baking soda |
| 1 | teaspoon | Each ground cinnamon; nutmeg, allspice and cloves |
| 1 | teaspoon | Salt |
| ½ | cup | Shortening |
| 2 | cups | Applesauce |
| 2 | Eggs; lightly beaten | |
| ½ | cup | Semisweet chocolate chips |
| ½ | cup | Chopped walnuts |
| 1 | cup | Raisins; optional |
| ½ | cup | Semisweet chocolate chips |
| ½ | cup | Chopped walnuts |
| 2 | tablespoons | Brown sugar |
Directions
TOPPING
In a mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add shortening, applesauce and eggs; beat until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips, walnuts and raisins if desired. Pour into a greased 13-in x 9-in x 2-in baking pan. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until cake test done.
