Old fashioned pound cake

Yield: 8 servings

Measure Ingredient
4½ cup Flour
2¼ cup Sugar
1 pounds Butter
10 eaches Eggs
1½ teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Cognac, rum or vanilla

Beat butter until smooth, mixer on low speed. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add flavoring then eggs in 4-5 portions. Add salt to sifted flour. Add ½ cup flour at a time beating well after each addition, on low speed. Line loaf pans with brown paper. Bake 40- 50 minutes at 350 degrees. At holiday time, the addition of fruit makes this a wonderful fruit cake, or top it with strawberries and cream.
