Chewy coconut bars

Ingredients

cupPillsbury's Best All-Purpose Flour*, sifted
½teaspoonDouble-acting baking powder
½teaspoonSoda
½teaspoonSalt
½teaspoonFrench's cinnamon
¼teaspoonFrench's nutmeg
½cupButter
1cupFirmly packed brown sugar
1Egg; unbeaten
1teaspoonFrench's vanilla
1cupQuick-cooking rolled oats
1cupCoconut
½cupFunsten's Nuts; chopped
Confectioners' sugar

Directions

Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 4 dozen. Sift together dry ingredients. Cream butter then gradually add brown sugar creaming well. Add egg and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients. Stir in oats, coconut, and nuts.

Spread in well-greased 13 x 9-inch pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 12 to 15 minutes. Before serving, cut into bars and roll in confectioners' sugar. *For use with Pillsbury's Best Self-Rising Flour, omit baking powder and salt. Decrease soda to ¼ teaspoon.
