Cook ground beef until crumbly. Add garlic, onion rings, and spices. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add tomatoes and sauce, sugar. Bring to a boil, add mushrooms, then simmer for 1 to 1-½ hours, stirring every 10 minutes or so.
