Southern barbeque sauce

Measure Ingredient
2 tablespoons Butter
6 tablespoons Cider vinegar
¼ cup Water
1½ cup Ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
¼ teaspoon Tobasco sauce, or to taste
1 teaspoon Finely chopped garlic
3 tablespoons Peanut,vegetable or corn oil
\N \N Salt to taste, if desired
\N \N Freshly ground pepper, to taste
¼ teaspoon Dried hot red pepper flakes
½ \N Bay leaf
2 tablespoons Sugar
1 teaspoon Paprika
1 \N Lemon

Combine all ingredients except the lemon in a saucepan. Add the juice of the lemon. Cut the lemon into quarters and add it. Heat thoroughly without boiling. Use the sauce to baste chicken, fish, spareribs, as they are grilled. YIELD: About 2-¾ cups.
