| 1½ | quart | Water; (1 1/2 to 2) |
| Salt and pepper to taste | ||
| 1 | Piece salt meat or; (6 oz.) | |
| 2 | larges | Ham hocks |
| 1 | Onion; chopped | |
Directions
In a 4 to 6-quart pan, bring water and salt meat to boil. Add peas or butter beans and chopped onions. Lower heat to medium and cover pot. Cook 2 hours, until tender, but not mushy. During cooking time, more salt and pepper or water may be added, if needed.
