In electric skillet or deep-fat fryer, heat 1 inch salad oil to 370F (or in large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium heat, heat oil to 370F on deep-fat thermometer). In large bowl, with spoon, mix flour and next 4 ingredients; stir in ¼ c salad oil, milk and egg until well mixed. Drop dough by rounded measuring teaspoonfuls into hot oil; fry until golden brown, turning once. With slotted spoon, remove to paper towels to drain. Serve as is or shake in bag with *Nutmeg-Sugar or frost with *Snowy Glaze. Makes about 4 dozen. (* See below) Nutmeg-Sugar: In paper bag, combine 1½ cups sugar, and 1 tsp nutmeg.
