Onion cheese squares

Measure Ingredient
8 mediums Onions; sliced
½ cup Parmesan cheese
4 tablespoons Butter
⅓ cup Shortening
2½ cup Self-rising flour
1 cup Milk; approximately
1 cup Shredded Swiss cheese

Saute onions in butter until soft. Set aside. Combine flour and Parmesan cheese. Cut in shortening to make coarse crumbly mixture. Blend in enough milk to make a thick batter. Spread batter into a 10½ x 15½" pan. Cover with Swiss cheese and sauteed onions. Bake at 375 degrees until crisp and golden.
