Grandma burdick's sour cream cookies

2 | larges | Eggs |
½ | cup | Shortening |
1 | cup | Sour cream |
1 | teaspoon | Baking soda |
1 | tablespoon | Vanilla extract |
3 | cups | All-purpose flour |
1 | tablespoon | Baking powder |
½ | teaspoon | Salt |
Directions
Cream sugar, eggs and shortening. Combine sour cream, baking soda and vanilla; add to creamed mixture. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Drop by heaping tablespoonful onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 8 to 12 minutes. For variety, add chocolate chips, raisins or nuts to the dough before baking. To make rolled cookies, add 1 cup of flour to the dough, chill, then roll out and cut into shapes.
NOTES : This is an old family recipe submitted by a reader of the Bee. The cookies are an old-fashioned, cake-style cookie that can be baked in drops or rolled and shaped for decorated cookies.
