Measure | Ingredient |

2¾ cup | Flour |
1½ teaspoon | Baking soda |
½ teaspoon | Salt |
1 teaspoon | Ground cinnamon |
1½ teaspoon | Ground ginger |
¼ teaspoon | Ground cloves |
⅔ cup | Water |
⅓ cup | Shortening, melted |
1 cup | Molasses |
1 \N | Egg, beaten Glaze (below) |
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine first 6 ingredients in a large bowl; mix well. Combine water, shortening, molasses and egg. Mix well, and stir into flour mixture. Pour batter into a greased 9" square pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Spread glaze on warm gingerbread, if desired, and serve.
GLAZE:
1 cup sifted powdered
: -sugar
2 Tbsp. boiling water
½ tsp. vanilla extract
Combine all ingredients; spread on warm cake.
