1½ teaspoon | Ginger |
½ teaspoon | Cloves |
1 teaspoon | Cinnamon |
2 teaspoons | Baking soda |
½ cup | Shortening |
1 cup | Molasses |

Sift together flour,salt,spices and baking soda. In a large saucepan,heat molasses until bubbly; add shortening and stir until melted. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Add sifted ingredients to molasses. Mix well. Cover and refrigerate dough for several hours.
Preheat oven 350 degrees. Roll dough a little at a time, on floured surface. Cut with people cutters. Bake 8 minutes on ungreased cookie sheets. Cool on wire rack. Decorate with frosting.
Frosting: 1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar 1½ tablespoons light cream ½ teaspoon vanilla extract Mix all ingredients. Use decorator tube with outline tip. Servings: depends on size of cutter.
