Cinnamon apple-nut muffins

| ½ | cup | Sugar, divided |
| 1 | teaspoon | Ground cinnamon |
| 1 | cup | Flour |
| ¾ | cup | Whole wheat flour |

| ¼ | teaspoon | Salt |
| 1 | cup | Milk |
| 2 | tablespoons | Butter, melted |
| 2 | eaches | Egg whites, lightly beaten |
| ¼ | cup | Chopped walnuts |

Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In small bowl, toss apple with ¼ cup of the sugar and the cinnamon. In large bowl, combine remaining ¼ cup sugar, the flours, baking powder and salt. Mix together milk, butter, and egg whites; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Add apple and nuts. Fill lightly greased muffin cups ¾ full; sprinkle each lightly with sugar. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Makes: 1 dozen muffins
