Butterscotch-date squares

Measure Ingredient
½ cup Flour
½ teaspoon Baking Powder
¼ cup Margarine, Melted
¾ cup Light Brown Sugar, Packed
1 tablespoon Light Brown Sugar, Packed
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 medium Egg
1 cup Chopped Dates

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease an 8" square pan. Beat margarine, sugar, vanilla and egg until smooth. Add dry ingredients until just blended. Stir in dates. Transfer to pan. Bake for 22 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack and cut into squares. Makes 16 squares: 118 calories; 22 gms carbohydrates; 3 gms fat; 1 gm protein.
