Buttermilk donuts

Measure Ingredient
2 eaches Eggs beaten
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Buttermilk
2 tablespoons Melted shortening
3½ cup Flour
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1 teaspoon Baking soda
1 teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon Nutmeg

Beat egg and sugar together. Beat in the buttermilk and melted shortening. Sift flour with baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg and stir into the egg mixtu. Mix well but dont beat. Turn out ono a floured board, knead lightly, then roll out and cut, deep fry 370 turning only once Drain on brown paper or a paper towel. These are delicate with a marvelous flavor.
