2¾ cup | Flour; sifted all-purpose |
2 teaspoons | Baking powder |
¼ teaspoon | Soda |
½ teaspoon | Salt |
¼ cup | Sugar |
½ cup | Nut meats; chopped |
½ cup | Seedless raisins |
¾ cup | Molasses |
1 \N | Egg; beaten |
¼ cup | Shortening; melted or oil |
2 teaspoons | Grated orange rind |
Mix together and sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into a mixing bowl; add nut meats and raisins and mix together.
Combine the milk, molasses, egg, shortening and orange rind; add to dry mixture and stir only enough to dampen flour. Bake in a greased bread pan, 10x5x3 inch, in a moderate oven, 350 degrees F., for 1¼ hours.
This recipe makes a large loaf of fruit bread.
