Ada's molasses nut bread

Measure Ingredient
2¾ cup Flour; sifted all-purpose
2 teaspoons Baking powder
¼ teaspoon Soda
½ teaspoon Salt
¼ cup Sugar
½ cup Nut meats; chopped
½ cup Seedless raisins
¾ cup Molasses
1 \N Egg; beaten
¼ cup Shortening; melted or oil
2 teaspoons Grated orange rind

Mix together and sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into a mixing bowl; add nut meats and raisins and mix together.

Combine the milk, molasses, egg, shortening and orange rind; add to dry mixture and stir only enough to dampen flour. Bake in a greased bread pan, 10x5x3 inch, in a moderate oven, 350 degrees F., for 1¼ hours.

This recipe makes a large loaf of fruit bread.
