Yield: 1 servings
Measure | Ingredient |
---|---|
2 cups | Cornmeal |
½ teaspoon | Baking soda |
1 each | Egg |
½ cup | Molasses (cane) |
1 teaspoon | Salt |
1 tablespoon | Bacon drippings |
Add enough warm water to the cornmeal to make a thin dough. Allow it to rise overnight in a warm place (or in the oven). Add all other ingredients to the sponge, mix well, and then bake in a skillet at 400F until a nice golden brown in color. Slice and eat. You can make one large pone per skillet, or smaller individual ones. Origin: Adapted from White Trash. Shared by: Sharon Stevens, April/95.
