Tomato and basil sandwiches with olive mayonnaise

Ingredients

8Kalamata olives; pitted, minced
(or other brine-cured black olives)
12slicesCountry-style bread -; (1/2\"-thick ovals)
1cupFresh basil leaves -; (loosely packed),
; chopped coarse
3largesTomatoes; each cut into
Four 1/2\"-thick slices

Directions

In a small bowl combine well the mayonnaise and the olives, spread the mixture on one side of the bread slices, and sprinkle it with the basil.

Divide the tomato slices among half the bread slices, season them with pepper, and top them with the remaining bread. This recipe yields 6 sandwiches.
