Sour milk doughnuts

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 cup Rich sour milk
½ teaspoon Baking soda
1 Egg, well beaten
1 cup Sugar
½ teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon Nutmeg
1 tablespoon Melted shortening

Directions

Sift flour, measure, and sift 1 cup with baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Combine egg, sugar, shortening, sour milk, and dry ingredients. Add sufficient flour to make a soft roll dough. Chill dough. Turn onto lightly floured board. Roll in sheet ⅓ inch thick. Cut with floured cutter. Fry in deep fat (365 F) until brown.
