Sauerkraut with apples

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 medium Onion; peeled and chopped
2 tablespoons Lard or bacon fat
1 pounds Sauerkraut; drained
½ cup Beef bouillon or consomme
2 Tart apples, cored, pared
& chopped
1 teaspoon Sugar
½ teaspoon Caraway seed
1 medium Potato, raw; peeled
& grated
Salt and pepper; to taste

Directions

Recipe by: The Eastern European Cookbook-ISBN 0-486-23562-9 In a saucepan, saute onion in fat until tender. Add sauerkraut; saute 1 min. Add remaining ingredients. Cook slowly, covered, for 30 mins.

Serves 4.

NOTES : This is usually served with pork or game.
