2 cups | Sugar |

1 teaspoon | Baking soda |
¼ cup | Orange juice |
½ cup | Sugar |
1 teaspoon | Salt |
1⅓ cup | Buttermilk |
1 cup | Chopped dates |
1 cup | Chopped pecans or walnuts |
1 tablespoon | Grated orange rind |
2 tablespoons | Grated orange rind |
GLAZE
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, beat well. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with the buttermilk. Fold in walnuts, dates and orange rind.
Pour into two 8½ inch greased and floured pans and bake at 350F. degrees for about an hour. Comb NOTES: Can be made ahead and frozen. From Taste of Home magazine, Dec.'94
