Orange & date bread

Yield: 2 Loaves

Measure Ingredient
1 cup Butter or margarine, soft
2 cups Sugar
3 \N Eggs
4 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Baking soda
1 teaspoon Salt
1⅓ cup Buttermilk
1 cup Chopped dates
1 cup Chopped pecans or walnuts
1 tablespoon Grated orange rind
¼ cup Orange juice
½ cup Sugar
2 tablespoons Grated orange rind


Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, beat well. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with the buttermilk. Fold in walnuts, dates and orange rind. Pour into two 8½ inch greased and floured pans and bake at 350F. degrees for about an hour. Comb NOTES: Can be made ahead and frozen. From Taste of Home magazine, Dec.'94
