Aunt jean's almond bread

1 | cup | Sugar |
¾ | cup | Oil |
3 | Whole Eggs | |
1 | teaspoon | Vanilla |
3 | cups | Flour |
1 | teaspoon | Baking Powder |
1 | cup | Almonds -- sliced |
This is a heavy dough!
1. Cream sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Sift and add flour, baking powder. Stir in nuts.
2. Put on a baking sheet in strips about 4 to 5" wide, the length of the baking sheet, and about ¾" thick. Leave space between strips.
3. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes until firm, but not brown. 4.
Carefully transfer to a cutting board, and cut into 1" slices. Lay the slices, on their sides, on a cookie sheet. Toast slices in the oven, turning if necessary until brown (about 30 to 35 minutes). Watch carefully.
