Measure | Ingredient |

1½ pounds | Ham shank |
1 pint | Water |
1½ pounds | Sauerkraut |
1 \N | Raw potato; grated |
1 pinch | Salt |
1 pinch | Sugar |
Bring ham & water to a boil, reduce heat & simmer for 1-½ hours. Place sauerkraut under ham in cooking liquid. Bring to second boil, reduce heat & simmer for 1 hour. Thicken the liquid with the potato, bring to a boil & season with salt & sugar.
