2 tablespoons | Fresh lemon juice |

1 \N | Clove garlic -- lightly |

¼ cup | Fresh basil leaves -- thinly |
\N \N | Sliced |
\N \N | Coarse salt |
\N \N | Coarsely ground pepper -- |
\N \N | Optional |
Combine all ingredients in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake. Let stand for 2 or more hours. Strain out the basil, if desired. Refrigerate overnight. Makes ¾ cup.
