12 slices | White bread; French or Italian, thick slices, slightly stale preferred |
6 slices | Swiss cheese |
6 slices | Cooked ham and/or |
6 slices | Cooked turkey breast |
3 \N | Eggs; beaten |
1 pinch | Garlic powder |
⅓ cup | Milk |

In a small bowl beat together the butter [or mayo] and mustard until well blended. Spread on one side of each slice of bread. For each sandwich, top one slice of bread with a slice of cheese, a slice of ham and/or turkey and the second slice of bread, butter side down. In a medium bowl beat together the eggs, garlic powder and milk. Dip each sandwich into the egg batter.
Brown both sides of the sandwich on a lightly buttered frying pan or griddle. Then place on a cookie sheet and bake in a 425 oven for 8 to 10 minutes to finish.
Or carefully lower sandwiches, one at a time, into hot oil (375 degrees); deep fry until golden brown, turning once. Drain.
Slice each sandwich in half and serve hot.
