1cupSugar
12Whole cloves
6Whole allspice
4Sticks (1-inch) cinnamon
½teaspoonPowdered ginger
1Orange; rind of
1Lemon; rind of
2cupsStrained orange juice
1cupStrained lemon juice
1Bottle (750-ml) Burgundy or Claret wine

Directions

In a saucepan combine water, sugar, spices and citrus rinds. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, remove from heat and let stand for 1 hour. Strain and add fruit juices and wine. Yield: 12 to 16 servings.
