Date filled cookies

Yield: 36 servings

Measure Ingredient
1 cup Shortening
1 cup Brown sugar
½ cup Milk
2 cups Oatmeal
1½ cup Flour
3 teaspoons Baking powder
½ teaspoon Salt

Cream shortening and sugar add milk and then oatmeal. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Dough should be soft. Chill. Roll out and cut with cookie cutter. Bake in 375 oven till browned about 12 min.

When cool put to-gether with date filling. FILLING: ½ lb dates, ⅔ water, ½ cup of brown sugar, 1 tsp. lemon juice. Cook until thick and cool before using.
