Apple brown betty

Measure Ingredient
2 cups Whole-Wheat Bread Crumbs,
\N \N Fresh
¼ cup Butter, melted
½ cup Sugar
1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
½ \N Lemon, Juice Of And Grated
\N \N Rind Of
5 \N Or 6 Tart Apples, peel, seed
\N \N & sliced
½ cup Orange Juice
\N \N Heavy Or Light Cream

Preheat oven to 350 F. With a fork, lightly toss bread crumbs with melted butter. Combine sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and rind to form a paste. Line the bottom of a buttered casserole dish with approximately ⅓ of the bread-crumb mixture. Spread half the apples over the crumbs, then half the paste over the apples. Repeat this process, with crumbs as final layer. Pour orange juice evenly over apple mixture. Cover and bake for 30 mins. Uncover and bake for another 15 mins, or until apples are very tender. Serve hot or cold with whipped or plain cream. Yield: 6 servings.
