Tomato salad with basil-buttermilk dressing

Ingredients

| 2 | larges | Bunches fresh basil leaves |
| ¾ | cup | Buttermilk |
| 2 | Green onions; thinly sliced | |
| ¾ | teaspoon | Salt |
| ¾ | cup | Mayonnaise |
| ½ | teaspoon | Freshly ground black pepper |
| 4 | pounds | Firm ripe tomatoes |
| Fresh basil springs | ||
Directions
Blend fresh basil, buttermilk, sliced green onions and salt in processor until smooth. Transfer to a bowl. Add mayonnaise and pepper and whisk until dressing is smooth. Let stand 30 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. (Can be made 8 hours ahead. Cover tightly and refrigerate.) Core and slice tomatoes. Arrange on a platter. Spoon enough dressing over tomatoes to coat. Garnish with basil sprigs. Serve, passing extra dressing if necessary.
