Steamed apples and rhubarb

1 | pounds | Granny smith apples; peeled, cored; and sliced 1/4-inch thick |
¾ | cup | Sugar |
½ | teaspoon | Grated orange zest |
½ | teaspoon | Ground dried ginger |
⅛ | teaspoon | Ground nutmeg |

In a 2-quart microwave-safe casserole, combine rhubarb and apples. In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients and mix well. Sprinkle over rhubarb and apples. Toss well to coat them evenly. Cover with plastic wrap (leave a small vent on 1 side so that steam can escape). Microwave on HIGH for 9 to 12 minutes, until rhubarb and apples are tender. Rotate the dish ¼ turn every 4 minutes. Let stand, covered, for 10 minutes. Serve warm.
