Spicy applesauce brownies

Measure Ingredient
½ cup Shortening
1¼ cup Granulated Sugar
2 eaches Eggs; Large
½ cup Applesauce
2 ounces Unsweetened Chocolate; *
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 cup Flour; Unbleached
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
½ teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon Cinnamon; Ground
½ cup Walnuts; Chopped
¾ cup Powdered Sugar; Sifted
⅛ teaspoon Cinnamon; Ground
1 x Milk


* Chocolate should be melted and cooled.

Cream shortening and granulated sugar; beat in eggs. Blend in applesauce, chocolate, and vanilla. Stir together flour, baking powder, salt and ½ t cinnamon; stir into creamed mixture. Mix in chopped walnuts. Spread in greased 13 X 9 X 2-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes. Combine powdered sugar, ⅛ t cinnamon, and enough milk ( about 4 t) til of drizzling consistency.

Drizzle over slightly warm brownies. Cool; cut into bars.

Makes 36 brownies.
