Spiced up apple cider pound cake

| ½ | cup | Shortening |
| 3 | cups | Sugar |
| ½ | teaspoon | Baking powder |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Cloves |
| 1 | teaspoon | Vanilla |
| 6 | larges | Eggs |
| 3 | cups | Flour; unsifted |
| ½ | teaspoon | Salt |
| ½ | teaspoon | Allspice |
| ½ | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
| 1 | cup | Apple cider |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Cinnamon; ----caramel glaze--- |
| ½ | cup | Sugar |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Soda |
| ¼ | cup | Margarine |
| ¼ | cup | Buttermilk |
| ½ | tablespoon | Corn syrup |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Vanilla |
Directions
Soften margarine and shortening. Add sugar gradually, beating for 1- minutes. Add egg one at a time, beating 1½ minutes after each egg. Sift together all the dry ingredients and add alternately with the cider and vanilla to the shortening mixture. Blend well and bake in a 10" tube pan at 235~F for 1 ½ hours.
CARAMEL GLAZE: Bring ingredients to a rolling boil over low heat and boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionaly.
