Smokies with caraway kraut

3cupsOnion; chopped
1Garlic clove; minced
2tablespoonsShortening; melted
16ouncesSauerkraut
1tablespoonPaprika
2teaspoonsSugar
1teaspoonCaraway seeds
1teaspoonSalt
teaspoonPepper
1poundsSausage, smoked links; cut diagonally into thirds

Directions

Saute onions and garlic in shortening. Add remaining ingredients except sausage; cover and simmer over low heat 20 minutes. Add sausage; cover and simmer 10 minutes.
