Pulikkaachal (tamarind chutney)

Ingredients

An orange-sized tamarind ball
1tablespoonJaggery; powdered
1teaspoonTurmeric
12Green chiles; chopped
4Sprigs curry leaves; chopped
14\" piece ginger; chopped
Salt; to taste -For Seasoning---
1teaspoonBlack mustard seeds
1teaspoonBlack gram dal
3Red chiles; broken
4tablespoonsOil

Directions

Extract juice from tamarind. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, black gram dal and red chilies. When brown, add green chilies and curry leaves and fry for a couple of minutes. Now add tamarind juice, jaggery, turmeric, salt and ginger. Cook till mixture is thick.
