Pulikkaachal (tamarind chutney)

| An orange-sized tamarind ball | ||
| 1 | tablespoon | Jaggery; powdered |
| 1 | teaspoon | Turmeric |
| 12 | Green chiles; chopped | |
| 4 | Sprigs curry leaves; chopped | |
| 1 | 4\" piece ginger; chopped | |
| Salt; to taste -For Seasoning--- | ||
| 1 | teaspoon | Black mustard seeds |
| 1 | teaspoon | Black gram dal |
| 3 | Red chiles; broken | |
| 4 | tablespoons | Oil |
Directions
Extract juice from tamarind. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, black gram dal and red chilies. When brown, add green chilies and curry leaves and fry for a couple of minutes. Now add tamarind juice, jaggery, turmeric, salt and ginger. Cook till mixture is thick.
