Jeff davis punch

Measure Ingredient
1½ pint Lemon juice
3½ pounds Sugar; dissolve in water
12 \N Bottles Claret
1½ \N Bottles Sherry
½ \N Bottle Brandy
¼ \N Bottle Rum
1 cup Marachino
3 \N Bottles Ginger ale
6 \N Bottles Soda
2 \N Lemons; slice thin
1 \N Orange; slice thin
½ \N Cucumber; slice thin

This recipe was found in the personal papers of President Jefferson Davis and was served for the Holidays at the Confederate White House. Mix all ingredients and garnish with thin slices of lemon, orange, and cucumber (with peel). If too strong, water may be added until the quantity reaches 5 gallons. Best made 24 hours ahead of time, add soda and ginger ale just before serving. Serve with plenty of ice. Source: F.F.V.
