Fruit cake

Ingredients

| 1 | cup | Raisins | 
| 2 | cups | Water | 
| 2 | cups | Sugar | 
| ⅔ | cup | Shortening | 
| 1 | teaspoon | Baking soda | 
| 2 | teaspoons | Baking powder | 
| 4 | cups | White flour | 
| ½ | teaspoon | Cinnamon | 
| 1½ | teaspoon | Allspice | 
| 1 | teaspoon | Cloves | 
| 1 | cup | Mixed fruit | 
| 1 | cup | Currants | 
Directions
In a pot, combine the first four ingredients.  Bring to a boil & simmer for 1 minute.  Set aside to cool. 
Sift together dry ingredients.  Make a well in the centre & fold in the boiled ingredients.  Mix well.  Bake at 300F for 60 minutes. 
Test to see if done all the way through.  If not, return to oven for a few more minutes.  Cool on a wire rack.
