|1½ cup||Firmly packed dark brown sugar|
|1 cup||Granulated sugar|
|½ cup||Instant coffee|
|1 teaspoon||Glycerine (optional thickener)|
|\N small||Handful coffee beans (optional)|
Makes 2-½ pints.
Combine sugars and water in nonreactive saucepan. Bring to boil and simmer 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Whisk in instant coffee and let cool to room temperature. (Do not refrigerate this or it may thin out.) Add remaining ingredients and stir until smooth. Funnel into bottle(s) and let stand in dark place for at least 2 weeks. Remove coffee beans if desired (I don't).
NOTE: For "faux Tia Maria," substitute dark rum for the vodka. For coffee brandy, substitute brandy.
