Cold water fruit cake

Yield: 12 Servings

Measure Ingredient
2 cups White sugar
2 tablespoons Shortening
1 teaspoon Cinnamon,
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
1 teaspoon Cloves
1 pounds Raisins (seeded)
2 cups Cold water
3 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Soda
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Vanilla

combine 1st.7 ingrediences in saucepan, stir and bring to a boil over medium heat and boil 5 min. Let cool. Then add vanilla. Add the flour, soda and salt mixture & at the same time add cut up cherries & nuts at least a ½ cup each. I also add a cup regular raisins. Pour batter into a greased & floured tube pan and bake in 350 oven 1½ hrs.
