Measure Ingredient
1½ cup Flour
1 teaspoon Baking powder
½ teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon Cloves
4½ cup Walnuts
3 cups Pitted dates
3 cups Raisins
⅔ cup Shortening
½ cup Brown sugar; packed *

Date: Fri, 02 Aug 1996 12:28:23 -1000 Source: 1984, 2AM, twins still up - inspiration/gratification! Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves.

Chop walnuts, dates and raisins (by hand or by food chopper).

Cream shortening and gradually beat in brown sugar till fluffy, then add the eggs, nuts and fruits.

Stir the shortening mixture into flour mixture and drop by teaspoons onto a greased baking sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.

* Note: I've added up to ¾ cup brown sugar. Sometimes with the lesser amount of brown sugar, I've added a bit of maple syrup.
