Applesauce fruitcake

| 1½ | cup | Sweetened applesauce |
| ½ | cup | Shortening |
| 1 | cup | Sugar |
| 1 | pack | (8 ozs.) pitted dates; sliced |
| 4 | ounces | Chopped pecans |
| ½ | pounds | Red cherries; halved |
| ½ | pounds | Green cherries; halved |
| 2 | cups | Raisins |
| 2¼ | cup | All-purpose flour |
| 2 | teaspoons | Baking soda |
| 1 | tablespoon | Cinnamon |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Allspice |
| ½ | teaspoon | Salt |
| 1 | fruitcake | |
Directions
Grease and flour a tube pan and set aside. Combine applesauce, shortening and sugar together in a saucepan. Bring to a boil; boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Combine fruit and nuts in a large bowl, adding flour, soda, salt and spices and stir together. Fold in cooked mixture until well moistened. Pour into the prepared pan and bake at 275 degrees for 2 hours or until done.
Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely.
