1½ cup | All-purpose flour |
1½ cup | Whole wheat flour |
1 tablespoon | Sugar |
1¼ teaspoon | Baking soda |
1 teaspoon | Salt |
1 cup | Buttermilk |
¼ cup | Vegetable oil |
Butter or margarine, melted |
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flours, sugar, baking soda and salt. Stir in buttermilk and oil. Shape dough into 6 balls. Roll each ball into 9-inch square on lightly floured cloth- covered board. Cut into 2-¼-inch squares; brush with butter. Place squares on ungreased cookie sheet.
Sprinkle with coarse salt or sesame or poppy seed if desired. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until crisp and golden.
ABOUT 8 DOZEN CRACKERS
Yes, you can make crackers at home! To give them their characteristic "crack," thinly roll out the dough and bake on ungreased cookie sheets.
