Yield: 1 batch
|1 cup||Baking soda|
|½ cup||Corn Starch|
|⅔ cup||Warm Water|
|Food coloring or|
|Shellac or clear nail polish|
Mix baking soda and cornstarch in saucepan. Add water and stir until smooth. Over medium heat, boil and stir until like mashed potatoes.
Pour onto board to cool. Knead when cool. For color, knead food coloring into clay until blended or paint with poster paints when dry. For a glossy finish when dry brush with shellac or clear nail polish. (This process should be done only by much older children!) Typed & tested by Anne Marie Chiappetta. Note this clay (when not colored) dries pure white. It also hardens very quickly! This recipe make 1½ cups of clay and doubles well.
It ccan also be stored in an airtight container for several weeks.
