Mattie ball's gingerbread

Measure Ingredient
1 cup Sugar
½ cup Crisco Or Lard
2 cups Flour
2 teaspoons Ginger
⅓ teaspoon Ground Cloves
1 \N Egg
½ cup Molasses
1¼ cup Buttermilk
1 teaspoon Baking Soda

Cream together the sugar and shortening. Add the flour and spices, and crumble together. Reserve ½ cup for the topping.

Combine the egg, molasses, buttermilk, and baking soda. Add to the flour mixture and pour into a greased and floured 9 X 13-inch pan.

Sprinkle the ½ cup of dry mixture on top of the batter.

Bake for 30-40 mins in a 350 F oven.

Serve with whipped cream or applesauce.
