Horn and hardart's baked macaroni and cheese

Yield: 4 servings

Measure Ingredient
1 tablespoon Butter
1 tablespoon All purp flour
3 cups Milk
1 teaspoon Salt
1 dash White pepper
1 dash Cayenne
2 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded
½ pounds Elbow macaroni, cooked
½ cup Canned tomatoes, chpd, drain
1 teaspoon Sugar


Automat favorite. Reheats well. Preheat oven 350F. Grease 1 1/2qt baking dish. Melt butter in saucepan; whisk in flour; add milk, slat, peppers. Stir constantly until mixture thickens and is smooth, 8-10 mins. Add hceese; cook, stirring until melted. Remove from heat. In mixing bowl, combine macaroni and sauce. Stir in tomatoes and sugar.

Transfer to baking dish. Bake until surface browns, 30-40 mins.
