|8 slices||Italian or french bread 3/4\" slices|
|2 tablespoons||Butter or margarine|
|1 tablespoon||Olive oil|
|2 \N||Garlic cloves; very finely chopped|
|1 teaspoon||Basil; dried, crumbled|
|2 tablespoons||Parmesan cheese; grated|
Preheat the broiler. Arrange bread slices on the broiler rack over a broiler pan; set aside.
In a small saucepan, heat butter and oil over moderate heat. Add garlic and basil; cook for 10 seconds. Remove the pan from the heat.
Broil the bread about 4 inches from the heat until it is lightly toasted. Turn the slices over. Brush the bread with the garlic mixture and sprinkle with cheese. Continue broiling until the bread is golden brown. Serve immediately.
