Measure | Ingredient |

4 quarts | Water |
1 large | Ham Bone |
1½ \N | Onions -- chopped |
2 teaspoons | Garlic -- minced |
1 teaspoon | Salt |
¼ teaspoon | Pepper |
Wash and pick over beans. In a large pot, cover beans with water. Add other ingredients and simmer over low heat for 6 hours, adding water as needed. Do not stir.
