Cherry coffeecake

¾ c firmly packed brown sugar ½ c all-purpose flour

½ c old-fashioned oatmeal

1 t ground cinnamon

¼ t nutmeg

⅓ c butter or margarine

1½ c all-purpose flour

½ c granulated sugar

2 t baking powder

½ t salt

3 T butter or margarine

¾ c milk

1 cn cherry filling and topping 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. For the topping, combine sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and nutmeg in a medium mixing bowl; mix well. Cut in butter to make a crumbly mixture. Set aside.

3. For the batter, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl.

4. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add eggs and milk; mix just until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not overmix; batter will be lumpy.

5. Spread half the batter into a lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Spoon cherry filling evenly over batter. Top with remaining batter.

Sprinkle reserved topping over batter.

6. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm.
