Cream lard and sugar, add vanilla and eggs and mix well. Sift together flour, soda and cream of tartar and add to first mixture. Add nuts then form dough into two rolls. Place in plastic wrap and chill several hours. Cut in ½ inch slices and bake in 350 degree oven 10 - 12 minutes.
